Originally, Mr Perfect was due to be in the corner of Ric Flair and
Razor Ramon at the sixth annual Survivor Series in their head-to-head
with two of the biggest names in WWE history, "Macho Man" Randy Savage
and the Ultimate Warrior - a duo named "The Ultimate Maniacs".
Things had to be re-arranged shortly before the PPV, though, because of
the Warrior's sudden departure from the WWE. Randy
Savage was in desperate need of a partner but no one was sure if it was
possible for the "Macho Man" to find anyone PERFECT enough for this
tough
match-up against Flair and Razor.
Eventually, Randy Savage held a press conference in Sarasota, Florida,
nine days before Survivor Series, claiming he had found a tag team
partner. Back in the studio, Vince McMahon along with "Hacksaw"
Jim Duggan, Hillbilly Jim, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Mr Perfect
awaited the much-anticipated announcement. "Macho Man" described the
mystery
superstar as a "PERFECT tag team partner". McMahon was unsure who
was being referred to and was told by Savage to read between the lines.
Vince then demanded that Randy Savage just spell it out and he
did, revealing the man was...Mr Perfect!
This revelation astounded everyone and Mr Perfect seemed to just laugh
the suggestion off as a joke. However, "The Brain" reminded
Perfect he took orders from himself and Flair but Mr Perfect didn't
like the
idea of taking orders from anyone and accepted Savage's invitation to
be
his partner at Survivor Series. This angered Bobby Heenan and he
slapped
Mr Perfect, which was the final straw. Perfect said Flair and
Heenan had held him back the past year and he then drenched Bobby
Heenan with a pitcher full of water. Mr Perfect then clarified
that he indeed would be Randy Savage's partner and they would become
the PERFECT team.
Mr Perfect's return to the squared-circle was much anticipated by
wrestlers and wrestling-fans alike and when the Perfect one entered the
arena he received a huge pop from the packed crowd in The Coliseum.
Mr
Perfect started the match off at a fast and furious pace which seemed
to
catch Razor Ramon and Ric Flair by surprise.
However, at one point during the match Mr Perfect seemed to become
disenchanted and started to walk back to the dressing room. With the
crowd's encouragement, though, Perfect decided to return to the ring
and help out Savage.
"Macho Man" was taken out by Ric Flair with a chairshot but Mr Perfect
still held his own in the ring. All of a sudden, though, there
was confusion when Mr Perfect accidentally knocked out the referee,
Earl Hebner. Mr Perfect managed to lay the Perfect-plex on Razor
Ramon but he failed to get the three-count from replacement referee
Joey Marella after much delay. A Perfect-plex was then laid on
the "Nature Boy" but Marella was distracted and Hebner struggled to
climb
back into the ring in time.
However, Earl Hebner had the bell rung and declared that he was
disqualifying Razor Ramon for not leaving the ring in time and the
PERFECT team were victorious. Razor was furious and took a steel
chair into the ring but Mr Perfect cleared house by using the weapon on
his opponents.
