Mr. Perfect was scheduled to participate in the main Royal Rumble event
but he ended up making a premature appearance. His manager, the
Genius, went one-on-one with Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake in a match
which was preceding the Rumble itself. The Genius fell victim to
Bruti's "Sleeper Hold" and a haircut was booked, courtesy of "The
Barber". This did not please Perfect at all and he ran out to
help the Genius
and brutally attacked Beefcake - first of all with several forearm
shots
and his knee and then he brutalised Brutus with chairshots to his ribs.
"Mean" Gene Okerlund questioned Mr. Perfect's vicious interference to
which the perfect one responded..."If you wanna call that interference,
you call it what you want but I'm sick and tired of it; everytime
Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake puts somebody to sleep he thinks he can
take advantage of them. Well, the Genius just happens to be a
friend of mine and now you
know Beefcake what happens to friends of mine when they get in trouble!"
Looking at footage of what went down earlier, "Mean" Gene, who was
obviously completely repulsed at what he was seeing, then interrogated
Mr. Perfect about what exactly was going through his mind as he was
picking up the chair. Mr. Perfect was emphatic in his response to
Gene Okerlund..."I'll tell you what's going through my mind - VICTORY,
THE WANT TO WIN, and that's exactly what I do everytime I get in the
ring and I've turned some heads now in the World Wrestling Federation
and Beefcake you're another excuse why Mr. Perfect is gonna go all the
way to the top in the World Wrestling Federation! You know, hair
grows back but, Beefcake, your ribs - they may not grow back the right
way!"
Attention was then turned to the Royal Rumble itself.
The random draw attended by the thirty competitors had already
taken place and "Mean" Gene
Okerlund was curious to know what number Mr. Perfect had drawn earlier
in the day..."I drew the PERFECT number and everbody knows the PERFECT
number in the Royal Rumble is number 30, and you bet I choose number
30, I pulled it right out and I'm gonna
tell you something right now, as I'm standing here; the Royal Rumble is
gonna be just like everything else I've done in my
life - ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!"
Things might well have turned out ABSOLUTELY PERFECT in the Rumble if
it was not for Mr. Perfect coming
up against the man who symbolised the WWE during the 1980's and
early 90's - reigning WWE champion, Hulk Hogan. With only three
competitors remaining, "Ravishing" Rick Rude, the Hulkster and Perfect,
everything seemed to be going according to plan and Mr. Perfect and
Rick
Rude ganged up on Hogan.
However, Rude accidentally knocked Perfect onto the apron of the ring
and, as he tried to climb back up, Mr. Perfect inadvertently helped
eliminate Rude by pulling down the top rope. Mr. Perfect managed
to
re-group and
even laid on the Perfect-plex on Hogan but, with huge help
from the steel ring post, Perfect was the last man to be
eliminated from the Royal Rumble, just losing out to Hulk Hogan.
